Çimenlik Castle

Çimenlik Castle, or Kala-i Sultaniye as it was once known, was built in 1462 in order to enhance the security of Istanbul after Conquest of Istanbul by Mehmet the Conqueror. Located at the narrowest part of the Bosphorus, the castle is located on the plain between Sarıçay and the sea. The fortification walls were strengthened by Sultan SÜleyman the Magnificent in 1551, together with Kilitbahir Castle. The castle now serves as part of the Maritime Museum.
