It is stated that only the entrance gate of Aynalı Çarşı located on Çarşı Street in the centre of Çanakkale, remains original today. The door, which is made of cut stones, has a round arch and a triangular pediment and has inscription above the gate. According to the inscription which was written both in Ottoman and Hebrew, the bazaar was built in 1890 with the permission of Abdulhamid II, made by Ilya Halyo, one of the prominent Jewish merchants of Çanakkale. However, Evliya Çelebi's travel book mentions the existence of the bazaar, suggesting that the bazaar had already existed and could only be repaired by Ilya Halyo. The bazaar was destroyed by bombing during the Gallipoli Wars. In 2004, it was rebuilt with the project by Dr. Ümit Serdaroğlu.
