Namazgâh Bastion

After passing through the Kilitbahir Castle, the construction of Namazgah Bastion, which was consisted of 26 bonnets located on the sea side of the road, was started with the suggestion of Baron De Tott who came for the reclamation of the Ottoman Army. It is the first and largest bastion built at the narrowest point of the Dardanelles. Afterwards, with its added constructs, the Center became a Bastion.

This place was the headquarters of the 4th Heavy Artillery Regiment to which the batteries in the districts of the Dardanelles were affiliated. For this reason, it always became one of the main objectives of the Allied Navy. There were 16 shore cannons on the bastion. The two of these were in long and 14 were in short-range. Only the two of them actively performed their duties in the Sea War, while the others could not be used due to lack of range.

It is known that the space on the main axis of the bastion was used as the War Operations Center during the war period. The bastion, which was lastly restored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2005-2006 and opened for visits on March 18, 2006, displays the Çanakkale War objects. Within the building, 12 exhibition panels provide historical information about the battles. After passing this section, a short video demonstration of a 7-minute Dardanelles War is provided in the interior sections of the bonnets. In one of these bonnets, a display with a sound system that revives the war period intelligence communication is presented to the visitors. In the same section, photographs of the sunk ships, which belong to the allies, are displayed.
