The martyrs’ cemetery is built 1.5 km southwest of the Kocadere village, behind the Northern Group Front, in Köyaltı in 1915. A large aid station has been built by medical companies of 19th and 5th division who fought behind the Arıburnu front against the Anzacs on 25 April 1915. The most common diseases observed amongst the soldiers in the war period are tuberculosis, dysentery, malaria, mumps, typhoid, heart diseases, skin diseases, eye diseases and inflammatory diseases. In addition, the wounds of the Turkish soldiers were mostly caused by bombs, shrapnel and bullets used by foot soldiers. Afterwards, a military hospital has been built here by the 16th division. The graves in the martyrs’ cemetery are real where 2000 martyrs rest. The number of the martyrs whose names could be identifies are 1.353. The hospital martyrs cemetery which is marked on Sevki Pasha’s map’s section number 16, has been revived by the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs in 2005.
