Ertuğrul Bastion, which is located in the west of Seddülbahir village and is one of the bastions built to protect the entrance of the Dardanelles, is built on Gözcü Baba Hill facing the sea. It was built by Asaf Pasha during the reign of Abdul Hamid the second. The tablets with inscriptions got dismantled in the battles and still couldn’t be found. The bastion consists of 3 bonnets and 2 cannon platforms between them. It was equipped with 2 long barreled Krupp cannons. Nowadays, only pieces belonging to one of the cannons can be found on the bastion. It is been assumed that the military quarters used to be where Sergeant Yahya martyr’s cemetery is currently located. The bastion was heavily bombarded from 19 February 1915 to 25 February 1915 and was neutralized before the Gallipoli campaign on 18 March 1915.
It was buried in the ground but was restored in 2006 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and opened to visits. In 2015, environmental planning was conducted by the field administration. Also, in the east of the bastion there is a model depicting the Ertuğrul Bay landing. In the bonnet which is located in the middle, war objects are displayed. The exhibition is open from 08.00 to 18.00 and is not free except for the families of the martyrs, rank and the file, journalist with a yellow press card and elementary school students.
